Long hailed in South American countries as a healthy, energizing social beverage, Yerba Mate is finding a new audience in North America. Notable is its ability to provide energy without the jitteriness suffered by coffee imbibers. Our yerba mate is hot air-dried and never smoked.

Its taste has been compared to that of green tea but with a more herbaceous, grassy character. Enjoyed hot or iced it can also be mixed with fruit juices for an energizing punch.

Our Yerba Mate is an herbal beverage from Brazil that contains caffeine; we would not suggest it as a nightcap.

Serve hot or cold, any time of day.

Category: Herbal Tea

High Level of Caffeine

Yerba Mate, lemongrass

How to Brew?

Suggested ratio of tea preparation is one teaspoon of leaves per 8 ounces of water. However, light and voluminous teas will taste best with twice the leaves. Experiment and enjoy!

Use boiling water when preparing black, dark oolong and voluminous teas, and cooler (180F) water when steeping green, light oolong and white teas.

Do not steep your teas longer than recommended or it will turn bitter. The rule of thumb is 5 minutes for most teas, and only 3 minutes for green and light oolong.

Orders are shipped Monday - Friday. Orders placed before 2:00pm will ship same day.

Tasting Notes

Yerba Mate has a minty, lemony aroma to it that refreshes and energizes. It has a light bitter taste with hints of grass and lemon, making for a refreshing boost for your day.

The tea's acquired taste changes based on how you brew it. It becomes more powerful if you brew it in the traditional gourd and straw, but is more subtle when brewed like other teas.

This unique tea pairs great with a bit of honey, complementing the unique flavors with a delightful sweetness without compromising what makes it special.

Enjoy this drink with chocolates, fruity pastries, and breads like crackers, croissants, and empanadas. The richness of these foods will bring the best out of Yerba Mate.
